New Phone

Yay number portability!

Just ordered a new phone from Amazon. No more dropped calls and garbage in/garbage out as my display flickers... well, for a few months, i hope. Still no flip phone feature, but it's got Bluetooth, and it has significantly better battery life than my current phone.

Most importantly, i was able to change providers but keep my number. This is a pretty neat interaction between the free market and the state-- obviously, it's in the best interest of the market to de-commoditize (Is that a word? It is now.) the addressing schemes that phones are built upon, but it's not in the best interests of any of the market actors to do so. Hence, legislation. Anyway. I'm mostly excited that i can get a new phone without having to tell everyone i know that my number has changed. With any luck, i'll keep this number forever.
