Blog slacking
Mr. Orange County, Mr. World Traveler, and associated hangers-on were at service today.
Every time i don't feel like blogging, Mr. Orange County comes to church with his lovely wife and lovely daughter, and comments on something he read here... and i'm pleased as punch that he still is praying for me. After all these years. Even though i hardly ever see him. And i don't send Christmas cards. And i can't even muster a few spare hours to play basketball on those Sundays that he makes the long, hard commute up to the San Gabriel Valley.
Mr. Orange County left his mark on my life. Am i leaving my mark on the teens i see at church? I'm tryin'. I'm tryin' real hard, Ringo.
I think it took Ms. NeverSleep's car accident this past weekend to jolt me into an appropriately holiday frame of mind. My time here is precious, and the people God has put in my life are precious.
All this consulting work was getting me down; nothing quite like pissing away the holiday cranking out code to put a bad taste in my mouth. I think i was neglecting the blessings-- i have holiday time. And normal hours. And a commute againsttraffic. And an academic environment with sane deadlines. All of which are exactly what i was praying for the whole time i was looking at this missions trip in July. God is so faithful. Instead, i'm veering towards fretting about making less money and not keeping up with the Joneses. Or the Mr. Infini-- there i go naming names again.
Next post, i'll detail my Christmas haul, and all the wonderful, thoughtful gifts i received this Christmas. But let no one forget the only gift that truly makes any of us worth anything: God's precious, only Son.
