Slacking, Chapter 5: The Weekend
My room is littered with stacks of clean (but unfolded) laundry and upside-down CD's. I burned those CD's a few weeks ago, mostly to convert DRM'd music into soundtracks for various slideshows. The best thing about leaving CD's upside-down is that we intend to do it to prevent them from accumulating scratches. But i leave them upside-down for weeks at a time, so that they collect a fine layer of dust which does far more damage than a nick or two from orderly stacking.
I'm such a stereotype.
We had Thanksgiving at my house. No matter what the situation, my mom handles it all with aplomb. Three last minute guests? Sure, why not? I'm so going to invite Mr. Saladbar to my house for Thanksgiving next year. He was a big hit; especially the tattoos. My cousins are all grown up. One is engaged! She's a year younger than me. Her fiancé is amazingly stable and well-adjusted. Meanwhile, the two brothers? Not so grown up.
I've really gotten closer to my brother since this move back. That's two of three goals accomplished by being here. I feel my time is almost up here, but i have no idea what's next. Living in an apartment by myself is going to drive me crazy. Plan A is getting married next week. We'll see what doors God opens and closes-- the important thing is to be intentional, and not just stumble into a poor living decision.
I played football on Friday, and bought a ton of comic books. And drafted with the guys at Mr. Galtwish's house. The army of volunteers that can be mustered for this wedding is impressive. I can only hope to muster one or two when my day on the, err, chopping block comes up. Presided Sunday. Man, i'm terrible at it. They prayed without me AND the speaker. I failed to impose my will! The speaker was our M from China. She's far too spiritually sensitive for me to hang around for too long. She really picked up on some things that i'm just twigging to after six months of observing the same people.
Because i like lists, things i ate this weekend: turkey, honey-baked ham, Chinese mushrooms, mushroom gravy, Malay-style fruit salad, cheesecake, Hawaiian bread, Zankou chicken (twice), Fat Burger, chili cheese burger, turkey jook.
My goals for this week: finish the wedding slideshow, write The Toast, learn The Song, finish The DVD, scan pictures for Ding2, draft JLA, feedback the rules draft for EdgeWorld, complete 5 items of Christmas shopping online, write the advancement mail forwarding ruleset, fill out the background check for Deputy W, pick up the tuxedo, get caught up in Bible in a Year, write three substantive correspondence emails, mail China pictures back to China. If i am lucky, i will also avoid pouting like a 7th-grader all weekend.
Yup, just another week in paradise.
I haven't blogged like this in years. Feels good to ramble.
